"As an Iowan I wish they would just stop giving subsidies to farmers in general (and yes, most farmers feel this way too, although there are some who idiotically don't want welfare for any poor people but still rail for farm subsidies). Farmers here in the Midwest are planting corn fence row to fence row again (sometimes without the normal rotation of soybeans), damaging wildlife habitat, their soils/water, etc. If they would just stop planting so much corn the demand would stay the same/go up because the world will always need grain whether we put it in our vehicles or not so prices would presumably stay close to where they are now or possibly rise. If you know a farmer please tell them to look into CRP, WRP, etc. - programs where they can let the land be for 5-10 years and get money from the government at the same time to improve their land."
Good First Post!
